Fitness and Activity Trackers

Fitness and Activity Trackers

There are SO many fitness trackers on the market these days, all of which offer an excellent way to keep track of your activity and progress towards your goals. It offers a degree of accuracy which I think is essential for effective weight loss. Below is just a small selection of what’s available to you.

Garmin Vivofit Fitness Band

The Garmin Vivofit Fitness Band is one of the more sophisticated fitness trackers. It’s a pedometer of course, so it counts your steps, but also:

  • Counts your calories burned
  • Tracks your sleep
  • Estimates your Base Metabolic Rate
  • Motivates you by telling you when you’ve been inactive too long
  • Is water resistant and has a long battery life
  • Is super cute! (It does come in other colours if purple isn’t your thing…)

It’s getting some great customer reviews. You can read them here.

Jawbone ‘UP’ 24

The Jawbone UP 24 is exceptionally stylish. It has similar features to other activity trackers, in that it counts steps and calories burned, but also:

  • Has sophisticated sleep features, including a Power Nap feature which somehow knows when to wake you up so you don’t accidentally over-sleep and end up feeling rubbish.
  • Tracks how long it takes you to fall asleep and then how often you wake up.
  • The Jawbone app that comes with the activity tracker can be used much like MyFitnessPal in that it also has a food database, full food logging capability and can scan barcodes of food for nutritional information.
  • And did I mention it looks really sophisticated?

Fitbit Flex Wireless

Just about everybody I know has a Fitbit Flex, although some are now starting to ‘upgrade’ (or at least swap) to a Garmin, Jawbone, etc. I’m sure you’ve noticed them appearing on wrists all over your neighbourhood! It’s also Amazon’s #1 Best Seller in Activity Wristbands. The Fitbit Flex does the following:

  • Tracks steps and calories burned
  • Monitors your sleep patterns
  • Has a ‘silent alarm’ to wake you up unobtrusively
  • Show’s how you’re tracking with LED display lights

There are over 5000 customer reviews on this one. Have fun reading them here!
