There are three essential tools that I credit for much of my weight loss success. These are described below, and can be easily ordered through Amazon and delivered to your home.
Your must-have fitness gadgets
If I had to name 3 must-have gadgets, here is what I would say.
Heart rate monitor
Polar heart rate monitors come highly recommended. The one I use is the Polar FT4. It does everything I need – measures time, heart rate and calories burned, and comes with a chest strap that is comfortable to wear and water (i.e. sweat) resistant.
A heart rate monitor is absolutely the most important piece of exercise equipment for ensuring your calorie burns are accurate. Now you know precisely how much you’re burning through exercise, you can plan your nutrition more efficiently.
Heart rate monitors are inexpensive and a worthy investment. You can buy it now through Amazon.
Fitbit Activity Tracker
A Fitbit is basically a fancy pedometer. It is super reliable and sensitive, and tracks your steps, distance and calories burned. Fitbit have a range of devices available for varying levels of sophistication, and they all sync to your smartphone so you can log into the dashboard at any time to see how you’re tracking.
The one I use is the Fitbit Zip. It clips easily onto my bra, and syncs with my food diary in My Fitness Pal so my daily calorie limit automatically adjusts depending on how active I’ve been. I found the Fitbit incredibly motivating – the satisfaction of seeing those numbers climb was incentive enough to get out of the office at lunchtime to walk laps of the park.
Again, Fitbits aren’t expensive and I can’t speak highly enough of mine.
I have also written a review of the latest Fitbit Charge HR.
The third must-have tool is a digital kitchen scale. It’s important that it’s digital for the precision. Weighing your food is absolutely the best way to ensure that you’re eating the correct serving sizes.
Our eyes can easily deceive us when it comes to guess-work and when you start using yours you’ll be shocked I think by how easy it is to underestimate the quantity of food.
A slimline one such as pictured here will fit easily into the kitchen or even your handbag and is easy to clean.
